✨HOW TO BUILD A WEBSITE✨ . The cost to pay someone ✨HOW TO BUILD A WEBSITE✨ . The cost to pay someone to make a small website can range from $1000-$5000. . I wanted to make a REAL website for my photography / art for over a decade. Well, guess who doesn’t have that kind of extra money sitting around? . ⭐️So I did the DIY route and taught myself⭐️ . I knew very little about websites and had only used Google’s old school blogspot. I joined forums and Facebook groups, googled a ton, watched YouTube videos. Made a ton of mistakes, sent a lot of help request tickets, stayed up til 3am way too many nights. . ⛰️💥But I DID IT —> www.adventuresoncall.com⛰️💥 . 1️⃣WEBSITE: Popular DIY Options are Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix, and Pixieset . I ultimately chose Wordpress for the most control, and it was honestly the cheapest by far  (the others you are paying for the convenience of drag and drop/easy set up). . Wordpress is more complicating with coding, 3rd party plug ins, and technical tasks such as hosting, security, and updates . 2️⃣HOST/domain: My host is BigScoots ($8 month plan). As a bonus, I can host both my foodblog @obsessivecooking and photography site @adventuresoncall simultaneously. Otherwise, paying for two websites on Squarespace, Wix, and Pixieset adds up over the years. Domain is namecheap at $12 a year . 3️⃣DESIGN: Wordpress base is Kadence (free) and I’ve been very happy. They have many child themes that are free or paid (I paid $100 for mine). . 4️⃣TIME: Probably 80 hours but much of this was because I had to learn everything the first time plus set up my galleries. I AM DONE! ✨I’m a full hematology-oncology physici I AM DONE! ✨I’m a full hematology-oncology physician!!✨ . ✔️4 years College (Premed - BS Biology and BA Art) ✔️4 years Medical School (MD) ✔️3 years Internal Medicine Residency ✔️1 year working + research (Oncology and Medicine Hospitalist) ✔️3 years Hematology Oncology Fellowship . Took me 15 years - It’s crazy but that is considered FAST. Most of my colleagues took even more years. . Because of how incredibly competitive and expensive medical training is in the USA, many people have to work/shadow/volunteer/research extra years before getting accepted to med school or matched to their residency or fellowship. Or people pursue additional degrees like a Masters in Public Health (+2 years) or PhD (+5-8 years) on top of the MD track. . Although I still have 2 more months of research due to my grant funding, today is the last day of our official ACGME fellowship training . I’ve been waiting a looooong time for this day. I’m thankful for this journey, and I think being a doctor is the best job in the world (with the bonus of photography as a fun side gig). As you may have noticed, we switched our IG handle from @hungrynike to @adventuresoncall a little while ago, but our website is still hungrynike.com . I’m working on redoing our website to update our, photography portfolio, brand collaborations, shop, and eventually my dream of a little travel blog. I’m using Wordpress which is a little scary and a steep learning curve. I had grand plans for a road trip and airbnb getaw I had grand plans for a road trip and airbnb getaway this month, but it got replaced by rental hunting and soon-to-be packing for our unexpected move. We’ll be doing most of the move ourselves to save money . So our @Thule cargo box will be put to use hauling clothes, baby stuff, plates/utensils, kitchen items, and bedding in a few weeks. Not how I imagined our first summer “road trip” haha . This is the Thule Motion XL size on our Rav4 SUV. The Motion is lower profile/more aerodynamic than the Force, and so far we haven’t noticed issues with wind drag (it’s surprisingly quiet) or decreased gas efficiency. Yes, even though we’re famous for being dog crazy, we’re apparently even more cat crazy . Given the astronomical cost of childcare here (daycare/preschool costs more than my med school tuition) I’m not surprised. .
